Construction sector booms: 637 building permits last month

    Villas’ permits topped the list, and accounted for 75% (213 permits) of all new residentialbuilding permits, according to the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.

    Doha: In a clear reflection of the construction sector’s ongoing performance, as many as 637 building permits were issued in Qatar in June, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said Wednesday.
    More than 60% of the total permits issued last month were for new buildings, the ministry said while releasing the data in association with the Ministry of Municipality & Urban Planning.

    The number of permits issued for new buildings was 383, the data showed.
    Data, however, do not include building permits issued for electricity sub-stations, MDPS said.
    The highest number of building permits (230 or 36% of the total building permits in the country) was issued in Rayyan Municipality.

    Al Shehaniyah was included in the Rayyan Municipality for data purposes.
    Doha Municipality came in second place with some 144 permits, or 23% of the total, followed by Al Wakra Municipality with 75 permits, or 12% of the total.

    The data from the other municipalities in Qatar are as follows: Al Daayen 73 permits (11%), Al Khor 53 permits (8%), Umm Salal 47 permits (7%), and Al Shamal 15 permits (2%).
    Of the total permits, 233 or 37% were given for “additions” and 21 or 3% for fencing works.
    By analysing the new residential buildings permits data, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics found out that villas’ permits topped the list, and accounted for 75% (213 permits) of all new residential building permits.

    Some 23 permits were given for apartments, which constituted 7% of the total.
    As many as 89 permits for dwellings financed through housing loan were issued last month.
    On the other hand, commercial buildings are found to be at the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 61% (34 permits) followed by industrial buildings such as workshops and factories with 23% (13 permits), mosques and government buildings 7% (4 permits).
    Releasing the data, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics said, “Building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator of the performance of the construction sector, which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy, and a main pillar for the basic infrastructure of many other activities.”

    MDPS also said the data was prepared making use of the electronic link between the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics and Ministry of Municipality & Urban Planning. GULF TIMES

    More and more construction, more and more buildings, more and more flats but still high rents and not beyond reach of middle class earning families. these days still rent for a 2 bedroom flat in doha is above 7500 per month. Government should do something to control the rents.
