This is good news for the safety of the people in Qatar. In no time, all public places around Qatar will be monitored by surveillance cameras to help improve the safety and security of everybody, whether he is parking underground or to places where no CCTVs installed before. This will also help the authorities to have their investigations done easier on cases like accidents or thefts.

Qatar Law No. 9 of 2011 mandates that surveillance cameras be installed in residential compounds, hospitals, malls, banks, hotels, warehouses and other locations, and is enforced by the MOI’s Security Systems Department (SSD).

In private areas like bedrooms, patient rooms in hospitals, dressing rooms and toilets, CCTVs are prohibited.

Especially in all residential streets in Doha, as there are more crimes, loots we can hear these days. Few days back a laptop was stolen by breaking a rear window of car of my neighbour. there were blood stains on the wall beside. Seems the person while breaking open the car, got hurt and by escaped. Police was called next day and investigated, even asked the Watchman, he said how he can know as he is asleep night time, he cannot know who comes inside the basement parking and does what. If CCTV is there no one can dare do this.

Here in Qatar, if a thief gets caught he will be imprisoned only then deported. I heard before when I was a kid that in Saudi Arabia, you stole something they will cut your finger one by one. Is it true or is it still in practice?

Yes it's true. is a prescribed punishment in Islamic law.And (as for) the male thief and the female thief, cut off (from the wrist joint) their (right) hands as a recompense for that which they committed..

Because of strict rules and punishments, still in countries like KSA, UAE and neighbouring GCC countries theft is less as compared to asian countries, Alhamdulillah.
