Over-consumption during Ramadan calls to end

Some businessmen have called for an end to over-consumption of commodities during Ramadan.

They argue that the habit common among many consumers is against the spirit of Ramadan and leads to wastage. They said some consumers rush to buy commodities in huge quantities as if they would disappear, Al Sharq reports.

Qatari businessman Ahmed Al Khalaf said, “Wrong consumer practices should be discouraged through awareness. There is sufficient supply of items and there is no need to buy in large quantities which leads to wastage.” Others suggest that Islamic scholars and media outlets should create more awareness.

Businessman Abdul Aziz Al Emadi said, “Some people rush and buy in bulk before Ramadan and Eid as if the stock would finish. Many buy more during Ramadan compared to other months and large quantities go waste. This has become a habit among Arab Muslims contradicting the teachings of Islam.

“This is also against practices which should be followed during the holy month. Scholars should play a role in changing this mindset in our society.”

Ahmed Hussain, another businessman, said over-consumption has negative economic and social impact. Khalifa Muslimani, a real estate expert, said the true spirit of Ramadan is being adversely affected by some people’s attitudes. “Ramadan is not an occasion for eating and drinking. “But, unfortunately, we see people rushing to buy more than their needs. I can’t see a single reason for them to justify it.”

Ironically, fasting is being practiced during Ramadan but during this time there's seems like panic buying. And ironically, some businessmen called to end this over-consumption where actually they are the one who benefit the most.

Unfortunately, we see people rushing to buy more than their needs. wrong consumer practices should be discouraged through awareness. yes @Bonjiek Dakoykoy this happens every year. I am surprised that business men are complaining, since they benefit the most.
