Leading hypermarkets in the country are gearing for Eid al-Fitr celebrations by offering special promos on a variety of commodities such as food and groceries, men’s and women’s clothing, and electronics.

“There has been a shift in the purchasing preferences of their customers as the holy month of Ramadan comes to a close in less than 10 days,” LuLu Hypermarket deputy general manager Malik Mohamed told Gulf Times yesterday.
“Customer footfall has shifted to our department stores, most of them enjoying the ‘Buy 2, Get 1’ promo. Majority of these products are bought as gifts for Eid al-Fitr,” he explained.
“Our clothing line for both men’s and women’s wear are also a crowd favourite as many of our customers look for suitable outfits, which they will use when they pray at mosques during Eid,” he explained.
He added that other products in their department stores that are included in the promo (until July 20) are select ready-made garments, footwear, ladies’ bags, and children’s wear.
“Demand for food items such as chocolates and other confectioneries also saw an increase in sales as they also make suitable gifts for Eid celebrations,” he said.

A visit by Gulf Times to Al Meera stores revealed hundreds of regular in-store campaigns, including “combo-price” promotions such as the “1 Plus1,” “2 Plus 1,” and the “2 for Special Price” offers for food and other groceries. At Al Meera’s Geant Hyatt Plaza Hypermarket, special promotions were offered on luggage, bags, electronic items and gadgets, and computers, as well as discounts on 32-inch and 36-inch television sets.
Last month, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company launched various promotional offers and reduced prices for 1,000 consumer products as part of its Ramadan campaign.

Deputy CEO Dr Mohamed bin Nasser al-Qahtani earlier said, “As part of Al Meera’s strategy, we are always looking for ways to connect with our consumers and give back to the community.”
According to Mohamed, LuLu Hypermarket is expecting a rush from shoppers preparing to celebrate Eid al-Fitr next week.

“Since most schools have closed for vacation, we have experienced an increase in customer footfall, specifically vacationers buying perfumes, clothing, and other products in our department stores,” Mohamed said.

He said LuLu stores recorded an increase in footfall during the weekends, and are expecting a surge in customer turnout in the last few days leading to Eid al-Fitr.
“The weekends are quite challenging for us but we are expecting a sizeable turnout from our customers in the coming days as Eid al-Fitr could fall next weekend,” Mohamed explained.
“In the days leading to Ramadan, our fruits and vegetable section has been one of busiest areas in the store. Rather than stocking on chips, sweets and other snacks, we observed that people have opted to buy healthy provisions for the holy month,” Mohamed said earlier.
He said LuLu’s Ramadan preparations involved procurement of food stuffs, meats, and other sought-after products that are essential to customers at the onset of the holy month.

But for Eid al-Fitr, Mohamed said the “Buy 2, Get 1” campaign in department stores celebrate the end of the holy month and the season of gift-giving.
LuLu regional manager (Qatar & Egypt) Shanavas PM said previously that they had started Ramadan-related preparations early in May by tapping UK, India, and Far Eastern offices for advance procurements. GULF TIMES

Those who will get their salary before Eid-al-Fitr are lucky as they will be able to avail these promotions. For others, you can use your credit card to enjoy these promotions while your salary hasn't credited to your account yet.

So, where do you plan to shop?
