DEFAMATION ISSUE

Defamation is considered crime not only in Qatar but all countries. You should be very careful what you're saying. Every thing have its right and wrong ways. Even words so try to use them correctly and properly and you know your limitation when you post something in social media..you have to think first before you click..

 

Can you be charged a case if you are insulted or damaged someone's reputation over social media sites without mentioning the name of the person or company involve?

Not necessarily. Identification can also lie under the surface. Just because a story doesn’t mention someone by name doesn’t mean that person can’t sue for defamation. If ordinary readers familiar with the person understand the article to be referring to him or her, that will be enough.

 

You might be assuming and guilty with such accusation. What do you think? What about these writers publishing their blind item column?

 

For me they using blind item its because the gossip cannot be confirmed. They used blind item to protect the publication from defamation..Blind items are just a fun game I think that news or magazines play to keep people interested in the stories.What I think is sad when there are not so blind items out there that cause real trouble.I have seen some really nasty rumors started by irresponsible writers. I know that a lot of people think all gossip is bad, but sometimes it really is just for fun.what is important is you know your limitation as writer or as individual.

 

Right. So your case might be so weak if you assume that you are the person referred to in a libelous post even if you have a disagreement or something with that person. A lot of people are posting this thing on their Facebook account like defaming somebody but not mentioning names that sometimes it looks like just a joke or a guessing game. No solid evidence of accusing or referring to a certain person. But if you talk something bad about your work or your boss even if without mentioning names, technically it refers to the company and you will be chargeable for that.

It's good that punishment on defamation is already considered applicable in social media's because many are abusing it thinking that social media's offers a wide place for expressing our thoughts freely without thinking that others has suffered already like other people ruined their reputation. Now everybody using social media's be it tweeter,fb and others are said to be liable for defamation even if they only share and not the original publisher of informations that cause damage over someone or a company's reputation.
