Qatar is expected to be affected by yet another bout of strong winds and resultant dust and sandstorm for four days from tomorrow night. Fresh-to-strong northwesterly wind that could reach up to 35 knots at times inshore and 40 knots at times offshore has been forecast by the Met Office. The wind is expected to generate waves offshore between six to 10ft and reaching up to 13ft at places. Visibility may come down to 2km at places, especially in the open areas due to blowing dust and sand. The wind is also forecast to cause a drop in the maximum temperature to 37-39 °C and the minimum between 25-28 °C in Doha, and less in Southerly areas, until Tuesday midday.

It's too difficult to experience another sandstorm. The worst one I experienced was the one that happened last two months ago. I hope if there's another sandstorm I hope it would be mild and not to cause health problems to the residents. Can somebody share your tips on how to manage if you are caught in the middle of the sandstorm?

How to survive a dust storm or sandstorm
    Some of tips are...
    1. Put a mask over your nose and mouth. If you have a respirator or mask designed to filter out small particulates, put it on immediately. If you don't have a mask, wrap a bandanna or some other piece of cloth around your nose and mouth. Moisten it a bit if you have enough water. Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the inside of your nostrils to prevent drying of your mucous membranes.
    2. Protect your eyes. Eyeglasses offer minimal protection from blowing dust or sand, but airtight goggles are better. If you don't have goggles, shield your face with your arm as you move, then wrap a piece of cloth tightly around your head to protect your eyes and ears.
    3. Shield yourself from flying objects. Seek out a large rock or other landform to protect you at least partially. Cover as much of your body as possible to protect yourself from flying sand. Wind-propelled sand can hurt, a dust storm's high winds can also carry heavier (and hence more dangerous) objects. If you find yourself without shelter, try to stay low to the ground and protect your head with your arms, a backpack or a pillow.

I actually do. When I go outside I should make sure to wear sunglasses and inside the office I am also wearing eyeglasses but sometimes these sands are so tiny that go through your eyes when the wind blows you. I need to take double extra care I guess.

Clean your contact lenses regularly and avoid wearing them more than recommended
