Schools restructured to attract best staff: Minister

Hammadi said the independent schools have been restructured to attract the best faculty and provide a better schooling environment, in addition to the completion of general framework of the national education curriculum document, which provides revised world-class curriculum and rich learning sources.

Addressing teachers, the minister said:"You have to be role models in your behavior and teach students in an effective, innovative, stimulating and interesting manner, to meet their individual differences. You must also manage your classrooms efficiently and professionally and turn them into lively and interactive learning environments, away from typical and monotonous teaching methods."

School administrations must also take responsibility in monitoring the performance of teachers, and the development of practical mechanisms to raise the academic achievement of its students, by boosting their actual performance and putting emphasis on the issue of discipline, attendance and maintaining suitable appearance, clothing and behaviour, the minister added.

As education is everyone's responsibility, the minister urged all parents to do their part in boosting communication with the school and the promotion of values and positive attitudes to their children and help them manage their time and complete their homework towards achieving their future aspirations, without interfering with the affairs that are purely educational as they are the responsibility of teachers and school administrators.

The minister also urged parents to follow up on their children's grades, their extent of discipline and other periodic reports using the National Student Information System (N-SIS).

For her part, Director of Education Institute of the SEC Fawzia al Khater stressed that all the efforts that have been made in order to prepare for the new academic year are aimed at providing opportunities to raise the level of achievement of the students.

She noted that it nearly 1,400 teachers from Qatar and the region have been eyed to work in the country's independent schools, which serve around 300,000 students, in addition to four schools for grades five and six.

Meanwhile, Assistant-Director for Private Schools Affairs at the Education Institute Aisha al Hashemi said that a number of new private schools will open their doors to students in the new academic year including Indian, British and American schools that will provide 5,000 additional seats for students.

Hashemi said that a guide has been issued to direct these schools, with a set of instructions they are required to abide by, in addition to a circular for each grade, which includes the minimum and maximum age for each group, in line with international regulations, as well as dealing with the conditions and transition procedures from one school to another and tuition fees according to standards pertaining to academic and financial performance.
