A THREE-DAY safety awareness training programme organised jointly by Public Relation Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and top multi-national company L&T-Qatar kicked off in Labour City, Mesaimeer, on Monday.

Over 150 workers of L&T participated in the training programme focusing on issues related to road and fire safety.

Faisal al Hudawi, Community Outreach Office Coordinator in MoI's PR Department, gave an audio-visual presentation highlighting the causes and ways to prevent road accidents in Doha involving pedestrian workers.

Khalifa Isa Abdulrahim and Shafat Ali Bhatti gave a live demonstration of the best practices in tackling fire incidents in workplaces as well as accommodations. Participant workers were told about how to use various types of fire-extinguishers while tackling different types of fires.

"Safety is a major concern at L&T. Our in-house safety experts periodically conduct such courses for our workers. However, this is the first such training programme involving MoI officials," said Hitendra Bahadur, head of Administration at L&T-Qatar.

The interactive training programme was designed to encourage the participation of the workers through different Q&A sessions. Prizes were also given to the participants who responded with the correct answers.

"I found this training programme to be very stimulating. It has prepared all of us for facing emergency situations at workplaces or at home. I certainly feel myself to be more aware and hope to perform better while discharging my duties as a camp supervisor," said RM Singh. Qatar Tribune

That's a good initiative and will educate the workforce to keep them safe both at work and outside. Such workshops should be carried out at all major construction sites.

And with these workshops, people will learn how to deal the situation, they will learn what needs to be done to avoid further damages.
