ABOUT 20 Filipino restaurants will take part in the first Filipino Food Festival to be held in two big tents in Al Dafna area, located in between the Philippine Embassy Doha and Qatar University, during the three-day celebrations of Eid Al Fitr, from 9am to 10pm.

The event is being organised by Nayong Filipino Group in collaboration with the Philippine Embassy Doha and supported by the United Filipino Organizations in Qatar (UFOQ).

The event is aimed at celebrating Filipino cuisine and introducing the delicacies of the Philippines to the residents of Qatar. It is also an initiative to unite Filipino entrepreneurs in the local food business.

The organisers are expecting to attract about 30,000 visitors during the three-day event.

Aside from various food booths offering different Filipino dishes, among the highlights of the food festival is a 'boodle fight', a military style of eating where a variety of food, usually rice and viands, are served on top of banana leaves spread on long tables.

The rustic dining style is gaining popularity even among Filipino households and restaurants in Qatar.

A barbeque section will also be part of the festival reflecting the popularity of street foods in the Southeast Asian country.

Other activities during the food festival include games and entertainment for children like face fainting, magic show and balloon twisting.

Entry to the venue is free of charge. Qatar Tribune
